Don't take our word for it reviewed
Given that much of my work has come via word of mouth, this is a subject in which I am naturally interested. What we might call “natural” word of mouth is one thing — it has served me very well — but can we provide a helping hand?
Harris makes numerous suggestions for starting conversations and encouraging customers and clients to talk about you. After all, as Oscar Wilde so astutely observed, the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.
Not all of the ideas will prove useful to everybody, and some seem somewhat old-fashioned — after all, this was published in 1998. Mind you, some ideas, such as sending out postcards, could be quite effective these days in terms of standing out from the crowd.
A great book to dip into when inspiration is lacking.
