My big mistake last week was responding to a notice in a local magazine asking if anyone is interested in a writing project. I assumed the project was already up and running and that they wanted contributors. Oh no, not a bit of it. Long story short, I’ve been roped in to help organise it. Not least because Elaine told them that I was brilliant at organising things. This happens to be true (he says modestly), but I like to keep that secret — so that I don’t get roped into stuff.
In Freedman Towers, the following conversation ensued.
Me: I don’t want to do this. Can’t you phone them and tell them I’ve run off with a 20 year-old? (I like to think that’s credible.)
Elaine: We need to be part of the community.
Me: I’m already part of a community: you, me, and the three feline parasites.
Elaine: 🙄
