On this day #4: Unmindfulness

Archive, by Terry Freedman

On 14 October 2019 I mused about the usefulness to writers of being unmindful, that is, possible benefits of the opposite of mindfulness. The prompt for such sacrilegious thoughts was a book I’d received for review called The Art of Mindful Reading.

I reviewed the book just before Covid19 became a “thing”. In England, everything came to a shuddering halt in March 2020, and I published my review in February 2020.

The reason I mention these details is that in my review I described a delightful enclave where I could, one of these days, escape for a few hours with a treasured book. I had no idea that the possibility of doing so would be zero for the foreseeable future.

But we live in hope, and there are other quiet places.
