Journalists under fire

Distrust, by Terry Freedman

A new report from the Reuters Institute is disturbing. As usual, journalists are being imprisoned or even killed for simply doing their jobs.

However, at least the report also mentions free speech being gagged, in effect, in liberal democracies — such as the UK. I’m surprised that it doesn’t cite more examples, sometimes from newspapers themselves, and often from social media companies. Thankfully, we don’t kill people in this country for writing articles, but with some people piling onto others on Twitter, and sometimes getting them fired from their jobs, does not exactly justify our taking the moral high ground in these matters.
