An unexpected benefit of lockdown

Conversing, by Terry Freedman

Like many writers, I am always aware of opportunities for meeting people who might otherwise be out of my “orbit”. It is all, as they say, grist to the mill.

Yet who would have thought that during lockdown, a time that you can venture out of your front door only if your life depends on it (or you’ve run out of milk), it’s been possible to have conversations with all sorts of people?

I’m referring, in case you hadn’t guessed already, to having stuff delivered. Quite a few drivers are people who have been made redundant, furloughed, or see their freelance work drying up. In just the last couple of weeks alone our stuff has been brought to our door by:

  • A business consultant.

  • A writer and film maker.

  • An actress.

Happy days — and I for one will be launching a one-man protest against ending lockdown!
